Young Chamber students took part in a webcast from the Government’s Number 10 website

Dated: 18/01/2010

Two Young Chamber students took part in a webcast from the Government’s Number 10 website this month.

Ayath Ullah and Shakilla Karimi, members of London Young Chamber,  joined in a debate, held as part of The Backing Young Britain campaign.

The focus of the webcast was the need for more employers to Back Young Britain by providing internships, apprenticeships and work placements, and it highlighted the financial and developmental benefits of doing so.

The event was hosted by Tim Campbell, winner of the first television 'Apprentice’ in 2004, and the guest panel included Yvette Cooper, Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, John Wright, Chair of the Federation of Small Businesses, and Philip Oliver, CEO of Blitz Games.

Questions from the audience and an online chat created a good exchange of ideas that highlighted real success stories for both young people and businesses.

Ayath, a student at Quintin Kynaston School in Westminster, said afterwards: "It was really useful to talk with employers about what they were looking for in interns and apprentices, and how we could get involved in starting our own businesses. I will definitely be sharing the info with the students at my school."

The webcast was produced in association with Government departments, the Federation of Small Businesses and the British Chambers of Commerce.
