The Young Chamber Council at City of London Academy in Southwark sharpened their kitchen skills when they organised a Master Chef style event on 26 January. Three teams of students competed for the prize of having their dish on the school menu and set to, preparing tasty and healthy dishes.
Jamie Oliver would have been proud of all the students who planned, prepared and delivered a range of dishes that left the judges wanting more and struggling to pick a winner.
Whilst Louise and Ryan presented a professional and extremely tasty fish dish that could have come straight off the menu of many of London’s great restaurants, Fahim and Najmah mixed up an appetising bowl of tuna pasta.
In the end judges based their final decision upon the ability of Chef Freddie being able to recreate the dish in the school kitchen, and within budget. Winners Elmin and Katie created a mouth watering baked aubergine with a tomato and mincemeat sauce that will go on the menu to see if the rest of the school enjoy it as much as the Young Chamber did.
YC organiser Rashid Coleman said "It was great to find out about diverse foods". He then went on to explain that "the YC Council had advertised the event at assemblies and on posters around the school".
Hollie Roe and Alice Wentworth, also YC Council members, commented that "It had been great as everyone had worked together".
School Chef, Frederic Delfs summed the event up by saying "It was a very good incentive that they should do every year to help get students more interested in food. All the dishes were healthy and I feel very proud of everyone".
