young chamber
for schools
Schools are aware of their responsibility to help provide young people with the skills and knowledge they will need to enter the workplace confidently. The Young Chamber framework supports this and provides additional opportunities to develop commercial awareness and enterprise through contact with real employers and business issues.
One of the key objectives of Young Chamber is to help provide a coherent structure for the enterprise agenda in schools focusing on enabling the voice of young people to be heard on a range of issues affecting business and the economic environment in which they live.
The students form their own Young Chamber Councils who, together with teachers and local Chamber staff, establish enterprise activities across all year groups. A business plan for the year is created and the Council also acts as focus group feeding back views and information from both students and business.
Young Chamber has developed its own tool kit which provides schools with a structure and guidelines for establishing and operating the Young Chamber Council.
The Young Chamber Council formulates and steers the programme of activities across a wide-ranging business and enterprise agenda, taking full account of current teaching and learning, including:
enterprise education
- enterprise capability supported by financial capability and economic and business understanding
work-related learning
- for work, about work and through work Young Chamber supports the teacher with specialist input both inside and outside the classroom by providing a key element of the connectivity needed between schools and local businesses.
